Best foundations for combination skin 2019

To all my gals and guys with combination skin, finding the perfect foundation is a nightmare! Its so hard to find the perfect foundation that’s not too oily but also doesn’t dry out your skin.

As a result, you end up having 5 or 6 different foundations to suit your skin’s mood on any particular day.

I have gone through so many different brands but I always end up going back to the same ones time and time again.

Here is a list of my favourite foundations and when I use them depending on how my skin decides to behave ..

  1. Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet

This has to be by far my favourite foundation of all time. Its my go to foundation for day time and night time so there’s always a bottle of this in my makeup bag. It goes on so well, it feels so good and it lasts so long. It has the added bonus of SPF15 which is a plus in my books.

I find that this foundation is perfect no matter how my skin is. Whether its super oily or has dry patches, Chanel Perfection Lumiere performs time and time again.

  1. Loreal Paris True Match Foundation
Loreal Paris True Match Foundation

This is my go to everyday foundation that doesn’t break the bank. The great thing about Loreal Paris True Match is that it comes in 28 shades and it feels weightless on the skin.

Since I’ve started using it I notice that it doesn’t dry out my skin and I don’t get many dry patches. Or if I have dry patches, it won’t make them look worse.

The best way to apply it is with a wet beauty blender as I feel like it creates a much nicer, velvety finish, compared to using it with a foundation brush. The only thing I’m not crazy about is building this up to create a more night-time look. But for a day-time look, pair it with Loreal True Match concealer and you found yourself the perfect everyday, flawless skin duo.

  1. Clinique Stay Matte Oil Free Makeup
Clinique Stay Matte Oil Free Makeup Foundation

I remember when I was first introduced to Clinique Stay Matte. I was shopping for a foundation that would last in super hot weather (like 30 – 40 degrees) and the sales assistant told me this was specifically developed to perform in amazon type weather. I was sold!

This was about 8 years ago and since then I haven’t looked back. It performed so well on my holidays. I wore it to a wedding which involved me being dolled up from the early hours in the morning to late at night and all I had to do was slight touch ups here and there. Normally, I would be powdering my face like there is no tomorrow!

I mostly use Clinique Stay Matte during days where I want a slightly heavier finish and when I’m going out but I don’t want to do a full glam look. I find that it sometimes doesn’t blend well with other cream-based products so its not as easy to play around with. As well as this, I don’t wear it when my skin is going through its ‘dry’ phase because, again, it won’t blend as well and doesn’t sit well on the face.

  1. Inglot YSM Cream Foundation

When I want that full coverage look, I always reach for Inglot YSM Cream Foundation. Out of all the full coverage foundations this one has performed the best on my skin and doesn’t dry it out either.

I love working with this foundation as I can play around with other products and it won’t crinkle or dry out too quickly. I sometimes find with other full coverage foundations that certain areas will create a sort of spotty effect (if that makes sense). The best way to describe it is when you have too much product, or you have too many layers of different products and its as if your pores suddenly decided they want to be 3D. I haven’t had this happen with YSM Cream yet and I have been using it since I went to my debs, which was about 8 years ago. That’s actually how I was introduced to it.

I usually mix 2 shades to get my perfect colour and sometimes I add a dash of Fenty Beauty PRO FILT’R soft matte liquid foundation to give it a little kick. It works wonders and I love the finish, especially when I am going for full glam!

And of course, no foundation goes unnoticed without the primer underneath. Similarly to the foundations I use, I tend to use different primers depending on my skin’s mood. The joys of combination skin!!!

So these are my top 4 foundations. I have a couple of new ones in mind that I want to start using but I’m slightly scared. I dislike spending money on a full bottle of foundation and finding that it doesn’t work for me at all. Do you have any recommendations?

**BTW** I’ve linked each foundation to where you can purchase them online. I’m based in Ireland, so these may not work if you are global.
